Westside library to close Nov. 22 for renovations

Pearland Westside Library will close in late November for four weeks for renovations, but the result will be that a larger space, expanded hours and increased patron access to technology.

In the summer, Pearland City Council approved spending $350,000 to add 4,000 square feet to the 6,000-square-foot library, 2803 Business Center Drive, Suite 101, to increase it to 10,000 square feet. Construction began Oct. 15 and the library will close from Nov. 22 to Dec. 15.

Alvin school board's top pick is Hillsboro ISD superintendent

Hillsboro Independent School District Superintendent James "Buck" Gilcrease has been named the lone finalist to lead the Alvin school district.

"We are confident Gilcrease holds the qualities and experiences that will continue the district's success," AISD board president Cheryl Harris said in a prepared statement after Gilcrease's selection was announced Monday.

State law requires a 21-day waiting period before a superintendant candidate can sign an employment contract.

The City of Pearland has partnered with Bass Pro Shops to host Kid Fish Fest, an outreach program designed to educate and provide hands-on fishing experiences. The event, for children ages 3 to 16 years old, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
