The Brazoria County Library System Foundation is presenting an Author Dinner on Thursday, August 29th featuring J. D. Davis, author of Unconquered, The Saga of Cousins: Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Swaggert and Mickey Gilley. Davis will discuss his book in which he recreates the irresistible power of music that surrounded the cousins as boys and shaped their engagingly distinct paths to fame. As a special treat, Mickey Gilley himself will attend and entertain at the event. Copies of the work will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
Doors open at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Brazoria County Fairgrounds in Angleton. A steak dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. with book discussion and entertainment to follow. Tickets for the dinner will be $40 per person. They can be purchased from any Foundation board member (contact info available at any branch library) or by calling the Library Administration office at 979-864-1505. Event sponsorships are also being solicited.
The proceeds from the dinner and auction will be used to purchase specialized computers for children ages 6-12 (Advances Workstations) that come preloaded with educational software for that age group. Previous author dinners have supplied AWE computers for the 2-6 age group, bought language learning software programs for the whole system or replaced aging computers not covered by state and county budgets.
